image preview

The Shannon Foynes Port Company’s objections to the expansion of Galway Port are “spurious”, “without any sound basis”, and motivated by “self-interest”, according to Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish.

Memories of Sonny Molloy

image preview

Sonny (whose real name was Joseph) was born 89 years ago, one of six children to Patrick and Mary Molloy of St Brendan’s Road in Woodquay. He went to the ‘Mon’ where he learned to play football among other things. A match report in a local paper once carried the headline “Five Goal Molloy”, a fact which he managed to drop into conversation many times over the years. Chatting with him could be unnerving as he laced his chat with colourful sayings like “Long drawers”, “Bring up the bucket”, “Th’oul suit turned well”, ’44 short’, “I hate small men”, and of course his famous draper’s mantra, “We have your size”.

Tough end to a great year for Ballintubber

image preview

I can only imagine that Ballintubber are devastated and disillusioned and as the week wears on the pain becomes more bearable. Ballintubber’s season has so many similarities to Charlestown’s year in ‘09. We went unbeaten in senior football that year in every competition and won the four available trophies within Mayo, similar to what Ballintubber achieved this year.

Bushypark home offers stunning views

image preview

This home in Gort Nua, Letteragh Road, Bushypark, is a truly remarkable residence for many reasons but the prime one has to be the amazing views on offer, with uninterrupted panoramic views of Galway Bay, the Aran Islands and the Clare hills from the entire rear of the property. Full length wall to wall windows are in place in the spacious lounge to maximise enjoyment of these views, as are sliding patio doors to the south facing rear gardens and patio where you can enjoy the vista of the undulating hills in the surrounding countryside.

Are the Tubber up to the task?

I cannot wait for the Ballintubber and Corofin Connacht senior final on Sunday, it promises to be a real cracker. Corofin are massive favourites at 4/9 while Ballintubber are priced at a very generous 9/4. These odds simply don’t make sense. Ballintubber have beaten a team that played in an All-Ireland club final this year (Castlebar) and a team that won the All-Ireland the previous year (St Brigid’s), yet the bookmakers think it is not worth their while turning up. Corofin have shot the lights out against every team they have played winning every game by 10 points or more, their semi-final hammering of Aughawillan more embarrassing on Leitrim club football than complimentary of Galway’s status.
